1. What FauxGuard provides

FauxGuard is a web-based image inspection tool. A user selects a JPG, PNG, or WebP image and the service checks readable metadata, provenance markers, and known generator signatures. When those checks do not settle the question, the image may be sent to a visual detection model. The service returns an estimated probability, a confidence band, provenance details, and explanatory reasons.

The result is a signal for investigation and review. It is not a certificate of authenticity, a forensic report, an identity check, a legal opinion, or a guarantee that an image was or was not created by artificial intelligence. The wording “likely AI-generated” or “likely camera-origin” describes the score produced for that upload, not a final conclusion about the person who submitted or created it.

2. Eligibility and acceptable use

You may use FauxGuard only in compliance with applicable law and these terms. You must have permission or another lawful basis to upload each image and to have it processed for detection. Do not upload child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, stolen identity documents, trade secrets, or other content you are not authorized to disclose to the service and its processors.

You may not use automated scripts to scrape the interface, bypass the daily allowance, overload the queue, submit malicious files, probe internal systems, or interfere with another person's use. You may not misrepresent a detection result as a court finding, police finding, platform ruling, or verified fact. You are responsible for the decision you make after receiving a result and for any notice or explanation you owe to another person.

3. Free use, limits, and payment status

The free allowance is five scans per browser per day. FauxGuard may adjust these limits, reject traffic, or pause access to protect the service and its capacity.

The pricing page may show future API tiers as an early preview. They are not an offer that can be accepted, and no payment is currently available. No API key is issued by these terms.

4. Third-party processing

Metadata inspection runs as part of the FauxGuard server request. If visual model analysis is needed, the processed image is transmitted to Sightengine, a third-party detection provider. Sightengine's own terms and privacy practices apply to that processing. FauxGuard keeps credentials on the server and does not expose the upstream API key to the browser.

Third-party availability is outside FauxGuard's control. If a provider is unavailable, over capacity, or returns an invalid response, FauxGuard may return a partial metadata result with a notice. A partial result is not evidence that the image is authentic or generated.

5. Intellectual property

You retain whatever rights you have in the image you upload. You give FauxGuard permission to process that image only as needed to provide the requested detection result, secure the service, and diagnose a failure. The FauxGuard name, interface, written content, scoring presentation, and site code are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These terms do not transfer ownership of the site to you.

You may quote a short portion of a result for a legitimate review, news, or dispute-resolution purpose if you do not imply that FauxGuard issued a final factual or legal conclusion. You may not copy the service or present FauxGuard's output as your own certified detection product without written permission.

6. Availability, changes, and termination

The service is provided on an “as available” basis. FauxGuard may modify routes, models, limits, retention practices, and features, or suspend the service for maintenance, security, cost control, or legal reasons. We may block requests that appear abusive, automated, unlawful, or harmful to the service. Because the product is under active development, a feature described on the pricing page may change before it is released.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FauxGuard disclaims warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted availability. AI detection is inherently uncertain. Files can lose metadata through compression, metadata can be edited, and visual models can make mistakes on real and generated images alike.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FauxGuard will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, reputational harm, account decisions, payment disputes, or claims arising from reliance on a result. Where liability cannot be excluded, it will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid FauxGuard for the specific request or ten U.S. dollars.

8. Contact and updates

We may update these terms when the service changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
